More Practice

I bought a new easel so that I can now paint with canvases up to 130cm. To ease myself into painting bigger I started with a modest 50x40cm canvas panel. I found it more fun than my smaller paintings. The easel is adjustable so I painted standing up instead of sitting down. I found this more comfortable as I could use a wider range of movement and attack the canvas at different angles. At the start I was painting from beyond arms length holding my paintbrush right at the bottom like a sword then later I came in close, often holding the brush just below the bristles, for more finesse. It was also easy to take a step back after each stroke and see how the painting was developing.
